The Gull Club press release

Jaq Tweedie was dubbed The Diva Of Darkness by her fellow comedians, until novelist Chad Taylor remarked, “We know you’re funny. What else have you got?” This is what else.

The Gull Club is a collection of brief, twisted, sinister and insightful poems about the fever dream of urban life.

Tweedie’s first book will be launched by publishers Dunbar Noon on Wednesday 3rd December 2014 at 6pm at The Station Bar in Beresford Street (off Pitt St), MC’d by Te Radar.

This limited edition (150 copies) book of poems will be for sale at the launch, with the author on hand to sign them.

What else? Oh yes, it’s funny too.

Jaq Tweedie first lived in central Auckland as a student of Music and English at the University of Auckland while also DJing and writing for radio station BFM. She also wrote comedy for television, stage and the stand-up circuit. Her show Ultra Super Vixen Women With Really Enormous Tits ran for three seasons and sold out Wellington’s Downstage Theatre for 2 weeks.

She toured the Fringe Festival circuit in Canada (alongside Te Radar and Brendhan Lovegrove) with her solo show The Devil In Jaq Tweedie and won the Favourite Performer award at the 10th Victoria Fringe Festival in 1996.

In 1998 she was nominated for the Billy T Award for her show Jaq Tweedie Runs Amok.

Peter McLennan and Jaq Tweedie set up the imprint Dunbar Noon Publishing in early 2013. The Gull Club is Tweedie’s first published book.
